Routine Checkup

Early detection of potential problems helps patients avoid costly, frustrating procedures later on. For example, early detection of small cracks of the teeth allows for a simple fix before the tooth becomes fractured and requires a root canal or a crown.

Visiting a TK Dental professional on a regular basis will keep your teeth and gums healthy. The American Dental Association recommends that you visit the dentist every six months for regular checkups and routine teeth cleanings. We understand that you have a busy schedule, so simply give us a call and we’ll find a convenient time for you to come in and maintain your beautiful smile.

Protective Guards

Custom fitted mouth protectors are individually designed in our office. First, we make an impression of your teeth and a mouth guard is then molded specifically for each individual bite which provides the most comfort and protection. We mold Night Guards and Sport Guards for both adults and children.

Mouth guards should be used by children and adults who play contact sports such as football, boxing soccer ice hockey, basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey. Additionally, they are beneficial for people participating in non-contact sports as well.

Adults and children who grind their teeth at night should have a Night Guard made to prevent tooth damage and cracking.

Dental Cleaning

It is necessary to get your mouth professionally cleaned at least every 6 months to address plaque and bacteria buildup in areas you cannot reach. Dr. Kaminar and the TK Dental staff work hard to ensure that your dental visit is both pleasant and productive. Routine and proper home care is imperative for maintaining a healthy smile and the TK Dental professionals will be happy to discuss with you how to accomplish that.

Oral Cancer Screening

TK Dental will diligently inspect your mouth for oral cancer during the initial visit and with each maintenance visit thereafter. Our staff is readily able to note such important lesions. While there are a variety of screening devices that assist doctors in detecting oral cancer, the only definitive method for determining this is through biopsy and microscopic evaluation of the cells in the removed sample. Cancer brush biopsies are done on-site. Should we see an area of question, we will adequately address it and explain to you how to proceed.

Gum Disease

Gum Disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Because gum disease is usually painless, you may not know you have it. That’s why it’s important to have periodic dental checkups and cleanings. Inflammation of the gums is called Gingivitis. If not treated, it could lead to more serious condition, Periodontitis.

Periodontitis

Periodontitis is common but fairly preventable. There are few reasons for this disease:
  • poor oral hygiene
  • smoking or chewing tobacco
  • genetics
  • crooked teeth that are hard to keep clean
  • pregnancy
  • diabetes
  • medications, including steroids, certain types of anti-epilepsy drugs, cancer therapy drugs, some calcium channel blockers and oral contraceptives
  • Periodontitis can lead to tooth loss, deterioration of the jaw bone and it’s a risk factor for heart and lung diseases.
Symptoms include swollen, red, and bleeding gums. Treatment includes professional cleanings (scaling and root planning). Advanced cases may require surgery.

Scaling and Root Planing

Deep-cleaning is a non-surgical procedure where plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line are scraped away (scaling) and rough spots on the tooth root are made smooth (planing). Smoothing the rough spots removes bacteria and provides a clean surface for the gums to reattach to the teeth.  We also offer advanced, non-invasive periodontal treatments. Keep your smile healthy and schedule an appointment with TK Dental at your convenience.
